Just in case the TV is getting a bit dull, I thought you might like to follow this link by way of some holiday entertainment. It's called Secret Worlds - The Universe Within and its another way of changing your perspective on things. It takes you on a journey from the Milky Way at 10 million light years from Earth, through space to the Earth itself, then down into the microscopic world of the leaf of an oak tree.
I came across this link on one of the blogs in my sidebar, Jennifer's Goodness Graciousness, an inspiring collection of short posts which I recommend you to visit if you haven't tried it already. Here's a link to another post from Jennifer's blog, an American Indian story which she quotes by Bearwalker, a story which happens to come very close to encapsulating the guiding principle of The Secret Of Life.
Thank you for sharing my site with your readers. I find your thoughts inspiring and enlightening.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom so beautifully and thoughtfully!
Blessings and peace to you,
Jennifer

I'll have to check those websites out. The Milky Way thing sounds interesting.

Thanks for the link. I will be taking a look at this.
Love your comment on http://betthechange.blogspot.com/ about the
"Gondola Effect". You are so right, happiness is something we bring with us, not something that we find externally.

Thank you for the link to Jennifer's Goodness Graciousness - like I told her, you're batting 1000 in blog recommendations with me, LOL.
The Secret Worlds was very interesting - it's amazing how we can see the
archetype of the macro in the micro - or is it vice versa? ;-)

You know Simon, last night I was thinking - perhaps the world wide web is "The Secret of Life." I say that a little tongue in cheek, but think about it. Last night I took a spin to see Goodness Graciousness and Be The Change, both noted in comments, above. I also popped over to see some new blogs through my other linked blogs. I am being exposed to all sorts of wonderful ideas from all over the globe - interacting with people that I would never have had the chance to know, even a few short years ago.
Granted there are billions who will never be able to participate due to poverty and other reasons. Perhaps someday those who are connected will reach a critical mass and somehow find a way to effect change for the better, for all. Perhaps governments will have to come to agreement once their constituents build personal bridges to others through the www. Perhaps Mimi's (http://mimiwrites.blogspot.com/ ) peace globe project is a start.
It could happen. After all, a mere thirty years ago, I was working with a slide rule in my hand - look at how far we have come!

Thanks so much for your comments and welcome newcomers!
Sunflower - Yes, I think you are right about the potential of the web. Ten years ago, I couldn't do what I'm doing now. I'm not reaching that many people at the moment but that will grow and potentially - for all of us bloggers - it could grow a long way. I guess it's up to us all to make it happen!
Thanks for the link to Mimi's site. A friend of mine has a peace site too: www.movingforpeace.blogspot.com
I think I still have a slide rule up in the loft. They were fine except that I could never get the decimal point in the right place...

Some interesting links. Thank you for sharing! Blog mad dropped me off here so I thought I'd say hi while I was here.

I think the slide show is an excellent way to represent the difference between patterns and design in the, does God exist, debate.
The argument being that there are only three basic elements in the universe...energy, matter and information. The basic difference between a pattern and a design is that a design conveys information..a language if you like. All languages are created by an intelligent mind...a sentient being...without exception. Although patterns exist naturally and the slide show is an example of a fractal pattern repeating itself. When we get inside the cell to DNA we see a design as DNA conveys information in order for it to replicate itself.

Oh by the way...I have reciprocated the link to your blog as I agree that our way of thinking is similar.
