There's a wonderful story in last week's edition of the Eckhart Tolle & Oprah Winfrey webcasts which echoes what I've been talking about in my recent 'Ultimate Truth' series of posts. It lasts about five minutes. You can listen to it here.
The whole of these weekly webcasts are available on free download (in either audio or video format) from Oprah's web site. If you haven't been following them, I urge you to give them a try. I thought that last week's (number six) was particularly powerful.
You may have noticed a picture which has recently appeared at the top of my sidebar. This is a recent award which was passed on to me by the generous Angelbaby. I think it's a lovely image and one which appears to symbolize a lot of what this blog is about, so I stuck it up there on the mantelpiece as soon as I got it. But it's a chain of friendship award and the idea is that I pass it on, not hoard it for myself.
So, if you are reading this, please consider yourself my friend! Please feel free to accept this award and know that you deserve it. You can use it on your blog (if you have one) and pass it on to others. Let's spread the love around and let it encompass the Earth...
Its wonderful to share a sense of progress while sharing and discussing meaningful experiences. Thanks for sharing yourself!

Ah. Eckhart Tolle. I have his book The Power of Now, which I think is utter mumbo jumbo. I'm just not really into such new age stuff, even though I do find Buddhism very interesting and profound.

I've been catching up on your posts, Simon, which I missed while I've moved. There is incredible insight here; you've presented it well.
And congratulations on your award. I do consider you my friend...Thank you!

Hi Liara – Progress can often appear to be slow, so yes, it does help to have affable companions along the way. Thank you for being here!
Hi Miao – Welcome to my blog! The way I see it: all these teachings lead to the same essential truth. We each have to find the approach with resonates with us.
Hi Marion – I found those posts rather challenging to write – especially the final part of the series – so I’m glad you thought they made sense! Thanks for taking the trouble to catch up on them at this busy time in your life. I hope the move is going well.
That award is now also yours, my friend – so congratulations to you too!

Simon,
I bought the book "The New Earth" to read while taking Oprah's online class on the book. I found the first three classes very hard to stay awake through, but apparently, the classes are becoming more interesting, as does the book, once you get further into it. All in all, I have learned a lot, and remembered things I had stored away.
Thanks for for a great post!

I have been listing to some of the Oprah/Tolle series. I really enjoy them. I think is very brave of Oprah to go down this path, however it seems to be working. Thanks for highlighting this.

I can't watch the Oprah/Eckhart broadcasts on my computer, but I have bought "Stillness Speaks" and "A Still Earth" and look forward to reading them. Another book I bought was "Life Without a Centre: Awakening from the Dream of Separation", by Jeff Foster. First time I've done any book shopping in ages....

Hi Athena - I downloaded the classes in audio mp3 so that I can listen to them while doing other things, which is a good way to stay awake - and so far I haven't keeled over snoring into the washing up! But I have to admit that most of the time I find them compulsive listening. Do give them another try, Athena, but Eckhart is not for everyone, as he himself accepts. Maybe you will come back to him at another time, or maybe another teacher will resonate with you instead.
Mark - Yes, it is a brave and ambitious project, giving mainstream exposure to Eckhart's teaching. But as Oprah makes plain in her webcasts, her success is built upon being herself, irrespective of what other people think about her - and clearly she is very much in harmony with Eckhart's work.
Pam - You could try what I do and download the audio mp3 versions from Oprah's site. Since they 'refurbished' the site recently, I've found this more difficult though. Press the right mouse button and you may get lucky, though I had to try two computers and two different browsers before I managed it last week. This is all to teach us acceptance perhaps! I think you'll enjoy the Eckhart books. Jeff Foster is a new one on me, but the title sounds interesting.
Thanks for all your comments!
